Screw Compressor Oil Filter Replacement Steps

3

Clear the Area and Begin Lockout/Tagout: Ensure the work area is clean and free of hazards. Lockout/tagout is the first and most critical safety step. Only a qualified technician should perform this process.

Confirm Power Is Disconnected: Attempt to power up the unit to confirm it is no longer connected to power. Also, check the control panel to verify everything is fully de-energized.

Relieve Air Pressure from the System: Use a wrench to loosen the sump pressure monitoring line. Tap the connection to ensure there's no remaining pressure. The pressure gauge should read zero before proceeding.

Remove the Saturated Oil Filter: Place the oil pan beneath the filter. Remove the bottom of the oil filter housing and use the drain plug to release the oil.

Discard the Old Filter and Prep the Housing: Pour out any residual oil and discard the used filter in your oil pan. Grab your new drop-in filter.

Prime and Install the New Filter: Partially fill the filter housing with oil to prime the filter. Insert the new drop-in filter into the housing and allow it to absorb the oil. Then fill the housing until it is about ¾ full.

Power the Unit Back on Safely: Once your new filter is in place, it’s time to bring the system back online. Remove the lockout/tagout mechanism, again turning your body away from the panel as you power it on.

Precautions For Using Screw Compressor Oil Filter

1. Always replace full-flow oil filter elements at (or before) the recommended change interval, particularly when working under extremely dusty conditions.

2. Periodically use oil analysis to monitor diesel soot levels and hydraulic oil contamination levels.

3. Install depth-type filters on all engines and hydraulic systems on a side stream or parallel circuit to control combustion soot, hydraulic system “silt” and water contamination. Depth-type absorbent filters of the finely wound paper type are particularly effective in removing water.

4. Never use coarse filters in an attempt to obtain longer filter life. If contamination levels are high and it is necessary to change filters often, obtain and install larger filters of the same quality to increase dirt capacity.

5. Expect short filter life initially when installing a depth-type filter in a parallel circuit. This is a common but temporary situation because the fine depth filter must first clean up the contamination, which the more coarse full-flow filters cannot remove.

6. Never drain the oil without replacing the oil filter element. If a choice must be made between whether to drain the oil or replace the full-flow filters, replace the filters.

7. Always use hydraulic reservoir breather filters as fine as the full-flow filter used on the system.

8. Always use lubricating and hydraulic oils of the correct viscosity.

9. After a repair has been carried out, never re‑install used hydraulic oil without pre‑filtering the fluid and always flush a repaired system under “no load” and low pressure.

10. Never use “adsorbent” depth-type filters. These filters differ from “absorbent” depth-type filters in that they contain chemically active media, such as charcoal or fuller’s earth.

FAQ

Q: What is a screw compressor filter?

A: Air compressors rely on screw compressor filters to remove pollutants, extensive debris, dirt, and other atmospheric air contaminants, much like our lungs filter out impurities in the air we breathe, by guaranteeing effective functioning and prolonging the compressor’s life.

Q: How often are filters changed for a rotary screw air compressor?

A: Air compressor filters (including air intake filters and inline filters) should be changed at a minimum every 2,000 hours for a rotary screw air compressor. If your environment is very dirty, you may need to change filters more often.

Q: How often does water need to be drained for a rotary screw air compressor?

A: Water should be drained for a rotary screw air compressor at least daily, if not more often. To reduce maintenance time, look for automated drain valves. Electric drain valves can be set to open on a timer to drain condensate regularly. A zero-loss drain valve uses a float mechanism to activate the drain, so it only opens when needed.

Q: Is an air compressor filter necessary?

A: Industrial compressed air systems rely on proper filtration to ensure air purity and reliability. Choosing the right air filter will not only boost the efficiency of your compressor and produce safe airflow, but also reduce energy costs and protect workers from dangerous particulates and contaminants.

Q: What is the purpose of the oil separator in a screw compressor?

A: Oil separator filter cartridge is a very important component in the screw air compressor system, its main role is to separate the oil mist and impurities in the compressed air to ensure the quality of compressed air.

Q: How tight to screw on an oil filter?

A: An oil filter should be tightened "hand-tight, plus a little more". Specifically, after the filter gasket makes contact with the engine, tighten it another 3/4 to 1 full turn. Avoid using tools to overtighten the filter, as this can make it difficult to remove later.

As one of the leading screw compressor oil filter manufacturers and suppliers in China, we warmly welcome you to buy high quality screw compressor oil filter for sale here from our factory. Good service and competitive price are available.
