Function: When the centrifugal machine rotor is running at high speed, it will generate continuous axial thrust. This bearing is installed at the front end of the high-speed shaft and is specifically designed to bear this axial load, firmly limiting the rotor to its designated position, ensuring a safe gap between the impeller and the diffuser, the casing, and achieving smooth low-friction rotation. If the axial positioning fails, it may result in excessive vibration, abnormal noise, or even rotor rubbing against the casing (scavenging), melting of the thrust surface, which are serious faults that may lead to major compressor maintenance.
Fault symptoms: Increased vibration value of the unit, shaft displacement alarm, abnormal reading of the thrust probe (such as 364-51806-000), high oil temperature, and metal debris appearing in the oil filter.
