 Replacement Cycle for Refrigerant Oil in York Refrigeration Units

The replacement cycle should be determined based on the type of the unit, operating conditions, and the condition of the oil. The general recommended standard by York's original factory is as follows:

1. Normal Operating Conditions(Load factor < 70%, system clean and stable, suitable environmental temperature)

- Screw-type water chillers: Every 8,000 to 10,000 hours of operation or every 1 year, whichever comes first
- Centrifugal water chillers: Every 12,000 to 15,000 hours of operation or every 1.5 to 2 years, whichever comes first

2. Adverse Operating Conditions (Continuous high-load operation, dusty and hot environment, water ingress in the system, frequent start-stop)
The cycle should be shortened by 30% to 50%. It is recommended to check and replace the oil every 5,000 to 6,000 hours or every half a year to avoid oil deterioration damaging the core components such as the compressor bearings and rotors.
3. Precise Determination Criteria for Replacement
The operating duration is only a reference. A more scientific approach is to conduct regular oil sample tests: When the oil's acid value is > 0.1 mgKOH/g, the moisture content is > 50 ppm, the viscosity change is more than ±10%, or the oil color becomes significantly darker and mechanical impurities are present, it should be replaced immediately regardless of whether the cycle has been reached.
