The York 031-02453-000 is a special **voltage transient suppression board (surge protection board)** specifically for York's original factory refrigeration units. It is an inter-stage protection component of the unit's electrical control system, belonging to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part. This board is installed in series at the front end of the unit's control circuit. York 031-02453-000 - Voltage Transient Board

The York 031-02453-000 is a genuine OEM Voltage Transient Board​ (also listed as Voltage Suppression Board) installed inside the VSD (Variable Speed Drive) cabinet​ of York chillers. It serves as the drive's dedicated line of defence against voltage transients.

Voltage transients - sudden, brief spikes caused by lightning strikes, switching of large loads or utility grid operations - last only microseconds but carry enough energy to destroy sensitive electronics such as the IGBT power modules, VSD logic board, SCR trigger board and gate driver boards. This board absorbs and suppresses those spikes, clamping them before they can reach and damage downstream control components. By doing so it protects the drive's critical electronics, reduces the risk of surge-related shutdowns and failures, and extends the service life of the whole control system.

The board carries three dedicated fuses (025-38523-000, 5 A). These fuses are the sacrificial element: after a surge event they are usually the first component to blow, which makes them both the consumable item and the first thing to check when troubleshooting.

Typical failure symptoms:​ unexplained VSD shutdowns or voltage-related alarms, drive damage following a lightning storm or power disturbance, blown fuses or visible burn marks on the board. When replacing the board, the three fuses should also be renewed at the same time.

Ordering note:​ this board is power-rating specific​ - 031-02453-000 is for 292 / 351 HP drives, while 031-02453-001​ is for the 424 HP 575 VAC model.
